“Spend 500 Rupees Now And Save 50,000 Rupees Later’’

Posted March 14th, 2010 in International and tagged , , , by Adrian MacNair

A Boston.com article explores the war on girls in India and throughout Asia. It’s estimated that 1 million female fetuses are aborted every year in India, as old customs clash with modern ultrasound technology that can detect sex early.

China estimates that by 2020, there will be 30-40 million more males than females among Chinese 19 and younger, meaning a lifetime of bachelorhood for many men. This problem has spread to “South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan, to the former Soviet republics of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, and even to Asian-American communities in the United States.”

..and in the ghettos created in Canada’s largest cities, where Asians will be the dominant ethnographic group.

Some evidence of sex selection by South Asian women, from the Lower Mainland,B.C.,who go to a clinic in Bellingham Washington to have an ultrasound done, usually followed by an abortion if it’s a girl foetus.

  6. This is only anecdotal, mind you, but when my wife was pregnant here, she went to visit the ultrasound and the technician said she couldn’t tell us the sex. We asked why, and the technician, also Asian, said that too many Asian cultures abort girls. When we told them that we already had a boy and that we, in fact, wanted a girl, she confirmed that we were having a girl.
