Off topic, but I wonder why this story, about the Federal Government’s shafting of Veterans old and new,is not getting any play on the Conservative blogosphere.

Does “support for the troops” in the conservative blogosphere only exist on the rah-rah level, similar to support for a hockey team? I’m beginning to think so.

Canada has a long and inglorious history of mistreatment of our Veterans. That is the reason for the founding of the Royal Canadian Legion, and the current government is continuing this disgrace, but not a word about it on the conservative blogs.

The Feds are offering wounded Veterans a maximum $276,000 lump sum buyout, instead of a regular monthly pension for life. That amount of money would barely support a person for ten years.

The same government gives pensions of a minimum of $40,000,for life,to a person who’s served SIX YEARS in Parliament.

I’m bringing story to your attention,Adrian, as I believe you are one of the few conservative bloggers whose enthusiasm for the soldiers goes beyond the rah-rah stage.

I hope you can expand on the story and help to mobilize the bloggers who allegedly are “behind the troops all the way”, until the war’s over.

I’m sending the story to Cjunk as well.

Without bidding?? There was a selection process used before the letter of agreement to go with the F-35 don’t you remember that? Also, what bidding is there for here? Who else makes a plane like this one? Nobody. Regarding veterans, did we in past pay somebody for 60 years a pension due to an injury?

The selection process was essentially run and decided by the US to meet their services’ requirements. In no way was it a competition to meet Canadian requirements. And until at least 2008 both the Liberal and Conservative governments were saying Canada had made no commitment to buy the F-35.

I haven’t posted since I just don’t understand the details well enough. But it sure seems both the bureaucrats and politicians have a lot to answer for (remember the Charter was devised under the Liberals, then implemented by the Conservatives).
