Extreme sledding: Surely a capability the Canadian Air Force needs

Posted December 20th, 2010 in Canada, International, Technology and tagged , , , , by MarkOttawa

One wonders if this has been attempted at Cold Lake or Bagotville:

VIDEO: Swedish Air Force unveils new Viggen capability – sledding!

[CORRECTION: The video shows the Viggen, not the Gripen. Still, I'm sure it's available as a retrofit option.] I hope Saab updates its Gripen sales pitch [more here]. The never-revealed-before sledding feature of the Swedish Air Force fourth-generation fighter could be decisive in a close sales competition with the F-35. Forget AESA. If only the Norwegians knew about this, the F-35 wouldn’t have had a chance in Oslo [more here]!

Can you imagine the cost of the fuel used to play around with this fighter!

Better they should use a Skidoo.

I think… yep… that’s the awesomest thing I have seen in my life.

Sounds like a great use for the CF-18s once the F35s come on board. :)

Crazy b*st*rds! Hasn’t anyone heard of jet engine exhaust blast in Sweden? Here’s diagrams and numbers, just for a turboprop.

When I was growing up in Montreal we used to grab onto the rear bumpers of city buses in the winter and slid along on busy streets.

No doubt a skilled pilot. I remember at Namao Air Force base in the 1950s after an aerobatic display in a Hawker Hunter, the pilot landed and taxied his plane in behind some parked cars, on an apron. The skill of his ground handling was as impressive although not as spectacular as his aerobatic skills.

The Swedes are unlikely ever use that fighter jet for killing an enemy, so they might as well get some use out of it.

The Swedes because of lack of having children are already an extinct people.
In a hundred years, no one will remember them anymore than the Hittites. Sweden is already an Islamic Country. Just watch the video’s of there ever aging Police run from their replacements. No kids, no Civilizational continuance. Simple arithmetic. They can blame no one but their selfish selves.

I’m not sure that going forward Canadians will be in a great position to throw stones:

    “Afstan: Swedes hanging tough(ish)”

By the way our media did not report the above.

So what’s the Canadians’ excuse (for not having any fun with the THEIR fighters)?

  12. MarkOttawaNo Gravatar says:

And remember also that this government was, and remains, unwilling to deploy our CF-18s to Afstan for fear that a bomb or missile might kill civilians and cause a political and media uproar here:

I hear the Liberals like this idea for our air force. Each of those sleds is considered an armed weapon of the air force.

The total fertility rate in Sweden is higher than in Canada. I suppose that means Canadians are also extinct?
And to call Sweden an Islamic Country is just ignorant.
