Ok, I’ll admit it. I’ve started watching Sun News Network. But I haven’t watched any news or “straight talk”. Just the comedy show hosted by Ezra Levant called The Source.
I’m not being sarcastic or condescending. Ezra probably has the funniest show on Canadian TV right now, most of it intentional. His parody of 22 minutes (feels like an hour), a peek into Ezra’s secret desires to be an actor, actually managed to convey the absurdity of ambushing Ford at his home better than most editorials.
His latest segment called “Empty Protest” is some very funny stuff. Basically, Ezra heads down to Occupy Toronto at 4 a.m. and starts trying to open the zippers of several empty tents. When he’s accosted by occupiers, he uses the same logic employed by the squatters against them:
PROTESTER: What are you doing?
EZRA: Are you saying I can’t occupy Toronto?
PROTESTER: Not other people’s tents.
EZRA: But there’s no people in them.
[...]
PROTESTER: Do you not have decency for anyone?
EZRA: There’s no one in the tent though. We used the infra-red cameras, there’s no one in the tents.
PROTESTER: Why is that a concern?
EZRA: Because I think you guys are fake, I think you’re a few union organizers and the rest of these tents are empty.
[...]
PROTESTER: Do you own the tent?
EZRA: No, but I didn’t think you guys believe in private property.
It’s good stuff. Watch the whole video here. After that confrontation, one of the occupiers decides to snatch Ezra’s glasses and run off with them. He gets his glasses back and returns to the studio in the garb of Bob and Doug McKenzie from the Great White North show.
It doesn’t have the rapier wit of a Rick Mercer show, but it’s equal to it in laugh value. And part of what makes both shows funny is that there’s an element of truth to the comedy.

This video has been picked by american bloggers and is posted at theblaze.com. Maybe he will get an academy award for original script.
Ezra is certainly a better performer than Mary what er name!
Better looking as well. LOL
Not only is Ezra very funny he looks way better in a costume than Mary the Masher Queen of the CBC.
Behind Ezra’s humour is a finely tuned tactical mind. Watch as he directs our attention to very serious issues and then makes it fun with his slapstick.
Even the HRC section 13 fight is interesting as he builds our expectations so that any conservative government will have trouble
if they don’t support the private members bill.
Humour…you betcha, cunning…right on target.
why did you just start to watch sun news I been watching it from day 1 love that station. the evening line up is great. and watching the round table. I lke it cause there not politically correct. I blocked out cbc haven;t watched cbcnewsworld in like 7months now before sun I was hooked on fox news now I watch both. i don’t like cbc news so I stay away from it. the only thing i ever watch on cbc is hockey and sports. nothing else.
Too bad you don’t watch the rest of the shows you would have your eyes opened………..
I find a lot of the other shows a bit of a turnoff except for Adler. I think when it’s trying to be serious it doesn’t come off quite so well as when Ezra mocks things with humour.
Did anyone else not think of the McKenzie Brothers when they saw that set up?
Rapier wit of Mercer? … Merrrrcer? …. Wait! Do you mean RICK mercer? The CBC welfare case Mercer? THAT one?
The same Rick Mercer who’s trapped doing his anti-amercian shtick for the CBC for years because he’s too limited in his comedic talent to compete anywhere else? THAT Mercer?
The Rick Mercer who does such grand and enviable performances as a show for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology’s Media Arts entertainment night? THAT Mercer?
Give me a break. If this guy were to drop any lower on the entertainment food chain he’d be doing birthday parties for seven year olds. If it weren’t for the CBC handouts this hack would starve.
Ezra is endowed with both logic and common sense. Mix those with a natural humor and he would NEVER make it in politics.
I think Mercer is pretty funny. He rips on everybody. Remember his Liberal GPS ad?
If you like Ezra then I strongly suggest you watch Brian Lilley. He also gets his point across with wit and satire.
I have a home based business and used to have either CTV or Newsworld on for background. Now I have Sun News all day. It is far superior to the others. Cheers.
I agree. His personal blog shreds everyone and he takes no prisoners.
you might think there not serious but sun news has alot of power seems like. I mean think of this they put pictures of wanted criminals on there screen what happens they catch some of them. they talk about getting rid of the wheat board what do they do they get rid of the wheat Board. they talk about defuning cbc and getting them to uphold there access to information which they finally did. they got the conservatives to also table a bill to abolish the HRC. so weather you think there funny or not. they seem to do a better job then our other main stream Media. besides the ladies on the show are nicer looking.
No I don’t remember his Liberal GPS ad because
I haven’t bothered with this lame, snotty weasel
or the CBC for years.
You are missing the point I made because you are
in such a hurry to defend a media person against
charges of Liberal bias.
I accused him of being trapped in doing an
anti-american shtick. He is really a one trick pony.
He isn’t funny enough to compete in the larger
entertainment market and he knows it. That’s why you
will never see him poke his timid little nose outside
of the safe confines of his CBC hidey hole.
Canada has, and still does produces some incredible
comedic talents. Our country has produced comedians that
are funny enough that the world comes demanding THEM.
Mercer is not one of these talents. He is an unpleasant,
lttle man who preaches to his CBC choir.
Also sir, you are saying that “Mercer attacks everybody”.
LOL! Yeah right. In this you are (not surprisingly)
using the typical MSM, judicial and legal community
definition of political neutrality.
This definition means you attack conservative savagely
50 times and then Liberals once (mildly) and then brag that
you treat all equal.
Yep, that’s neutrality all right.

Considering what happened to Ezra the last time he walked on the hallowed ground of the CBC, I don’t see him accepting an award anytime soon. I mean, could you imagine the emails?
-
Lilley is too obsessed with the CBC. I don’t know if it’s his own crusade or Quebecors but it’s annoying.
You’re free to find Mercer unfunny. I question your sense of humour.
(By the way, Quebecor tried to steal him… so, I guess they saw something you can’t)
Wish I could get Sun TV but they only broadcast in HD and I dont have that. Bless the internet.
I love Ezra. This is some great TV.
If you really want to watch Ezra at his best, track down the video he shot when the Alberta HRC dragged him in for publishing the Danish cartoons. He really ripped them a new one!
no they broad cast in non hd with shaw direct butyou need a HD receiver to get it because it’s on the new sattellitte. you will get it on 517 or 117.
It’s 177 in Vancouver on Shaw in non-HD.
Tried everything but no luck. Guess I’ll have to fork out for a new receiver.
Loved that one. This should be the link in case there is anyone that hasn’t seen it.

The pathetic little BC div. of Eastlink Cablevision, now even refuses to answer our requests for inclusion of SUN TV on our dial..or when it might be in the realm of their consideration. What gives?
