So, you may think I’m about to tell you what I think about the riot, but I’m not. I said everything I had to say on the evening it happened and it’s all still in my twitter record. But I do want to share something. CKNW host Philip Till had a great monologue this morning on the radio that pretty much sums up my thoughts about the whole thing.
Click on the link and fast forward to exactly 54:33. Enjoy.
(In case there’s any confusion, I don’t condone a single act of violence)

“Great” – So participating in a riot is nothing more than a nearly harmless “steam venting” of bored youth and a momentary and minor unfortunate “glitch” in an otherwise perfect individual.
Wow. Talk about a stretch.
Did it ever occur to you that simply because someone will return to their humdrum harmless existance AFTER they have done something wrong doesn’t mean that the wrong should be dismissed?
I mean, hell there is a nice diamond ring I would love to give to my wife sittling at the jewellry store. Perhaps I’ll steal it. After all I’m a good person. I have a family. It will be just this once and the store’s insurance will cover it so no permanent harm done – right? I’ll simply return to being a good person after this ONE small, forgivable crime.
Now, of course, having read this you will, (as all journalists do) get extremely pissy and probably start off an outraged response by exclaiming “BUT I SAID…….” or “DIDN’T” YOU READ WHERE I ….”.
Yes I did read your post actually and I found it to be absurd. Just because a behavior is predictable and we can understand it DOESN’T MAKE IT SOMETHING TO DISMISS.
You live such a comfortable easy existance, and the crimes didn’t happen to YOU that it’s easy to expect OTHERS to be endlessly forgiving – or may I say TOLERANT.
Journalists and lawyers, are there any concern of the “little people” you won’t dismiss? No wonder most people can’t stand those in your occupations.
1. You’re confused when you say you find my post to be absurd. I only linked to an audio clip.
2. You’re confused when you think Till was forgiving crimes or violence. He was referring to the bystanders caught up in the voyeurism.
3. You’re confused when you say you know what journalists are like. You don’t really have any idea what it’s like.
—-”a great monologue …that pretty much sums up my thoughts”
“Only linked to an audio clip? – Apparently not.
—-”He was referring to the bystanders caught up in the voyeurism”.
That is YOUR INTERPRETATION. It is typical of the arrogance of one in the news media that they believe that THEIR intrpretation MUST alwys be the only one or the correct one.
—-”You’re confused when you say you know what journalists are like. You don’t really have any idea what it’s like”
Really? How would YOU know? Do you know my background? Do you know anyhting of my extent of my knowledge about those in the media? My either you are clairvoyant or you are making an arrogant assumption – typical.
You’re insane.
