Few enterprises have imploded as quickly as Quebecor’s attempt to launch an alternative conservative TV station. I doubt even the most avid leftwing activists believed they could slay the dragon so effortlessly. Yet the departure of Kory Teneycke signaled an end to whatever vision was initially promised to conservatives.
I’m not going to lie to you. I contacted Teneycke back in June to congratulate him on his ambitious project and received a casual job offer myself. I was taken aback at first, but we sent a few emails back and forth and was informed SunTV would be hiring in August or September. I was sure I wasn’t anywhere near the top of the priority list so I stopped emailing.
Sure enough Teneycke soon stepped down as Quebecor executive following a deranged leftwing campaign to discredit him for the crime of having worked for the Conservative Party. It would appear that Teneycke made a string of halfhearted and genuine job offers to people all over the country. The following blog entry and its second part are riveting reads:
People don’t contact you, meet with you, share their vision of a groundbreaking television station, and invite you to be part of it if they aren’t sincere. What kind of organization does this and then – a few months later – shrugs and mumbles that it was all a practical joke?
Surely you didn’t think we were serious? When a senior executive with our company said we wanted you to challenge David Suzuki how were we to know you’d order copies of his books at your own expense and then actually read them?
I can sympathize with Laframboise, particularly in having her hopes dashed second-hand, as it were. The sad part is that SunTV has given every indication that, even if it can get off the ground, it will not be as the brash and confident Teneycke advertised when he left his role as CBC token conservative to become a Quebecor executive.
One clue is they hired Warren Kinsella, a man who repulses conservatives on an atomic level. The second is the hiring of Krista Erickson, a former “designated traveller” for MP Lee Richardson whose claim to fame is feeding questions to a Liberal politician. It’s a safe bet that the visual medium was a factor in her hiring [as Laframboise alludes to by dropping 10 pounds].
I’m getting the sense that Canada’s hot-tub-sized media pool doesn’t really have room for the kind of alternative media Teneycke envisioned.

Even though moderation is the flavour of the day or has been for decades now… we do seem to contantly drift leftwards too.
Well said sir.
There really is no point in paying attention to politics on the national scene any more. It always winds up the same way – left wing, Quebec obsessed, socially – anything goes and lawyer dominated and activist driven.
You have to wonder if it was ever their intent to give voice to Conservative views.
If anything, it appears to be shaping up to be Liberal lite, a CTV 2 if you will..
Something stinks here.
It would be nice to find out what Kory has to say about the matter off the record. I’m sure it would be quite the tale.
“Sure enough Teneycke soon stepped down as Quebecor executive following a deranged leftwing campaign to discredit him for the crime of having worked for the Conservative Party.”
That is an interesting revision of the actual story. He resigned because he was implicated in the fabrication of signatories to a petition.
I’m not entirely sure that any media outlet claiming to be anything other than a left wing mouth piece would be allowed by the Trudeaupian lords of culture within the CRTC. When I heard about the prospect of Sun TV News I was excited, but wondered how the CRTC rules that dictate an enforced Trudeaupian culture could be navigated around. I think we are witnessing that it cannot be done. The system that is in place and enforced with an iron fist will never allow any voices or views that differ from the imposed artificial “Liberal”, “Progressive” culture. It’s my understanding that any “news” outlet in Canada must be left (CTV) or extreme left (CBC), so how could Sun TV News be anything but the same old same old. I hope I’m wrong, but I believe Sun TV News was doomed from the start.
Canada’s future message from the MSM will be supported by Gayle and her friends. It is obvious to me that Free Speech will never be allowed in Canada.
You win Gayle.. why do you even bother to check what we think because in Canada we will never be heard.
Sleep well Gayle your left wing Canada will only move more to the left.
Hey everybody! Gayle’s back! Woo Hoo! Everybodys favourite lefty lawyer! (Like there ARE any right wing lawyers)
Or more likely an overweight, bitter, man-hating, university lawyer wanna-be.
Hey Gayle! Welcome back. Did you take a break from your women’s studies class? (Glad to see your taking the “tough” ones) – *snicker*
Gayle, tell me, do you really BELIEVE the garbage you spout?
Or do you simply have such a hate on for english speaking, Canadian born, caucasian, heterosexual Christian males that you will robotically attack ANYTHING that they might agree with?
Yeah, I thought so……
Canada sucks. We’re a nation of bullies.
WTF?
The problem with FNN has absolutely nothing to do with the CRTC or any other media outlet. The problem is that Tenayke is a rank amateur and not very good at his job, engaging in childish stunts because he’s not actually smart enough to do this job. The best thing he did for FNN was leave.
But you guys go on acting like victims. It is not like conservatives actually hold each other accountable for their own actions.
Ha ha ha
It’s not Fox News North. Never has been and never will be.
Now Gayle, your lies about why Kory stepped down may play well in the Leftist fantasy world you inhabit, but the reality is quite different.
Wow! I just got here and already there’s been a major setback. The MSM is dead anyway so let it go. Born to be mild journalism is soooo 20th Century. It might look like conservatives have been slapped again but I don’t think so. It’s time to build a new infrastuture to distribute news and ideas. One that’s fast, bigger and stronger than the old media.
Sure kursk. It was all just a coincidence that he stepped down right after the man who created the petition revealed the fake names Kory was touting in his editorial were all created at the same ISP, and at the exact same time Kory was writing his editorial. I am sure the potential criminal sanctions did not concern his employers at all.
Ha ha ha.

Why not wait and see the actual product before declaring it dead? Our attitude toward this is so destructive and negative, I’d like to puke.
