While the OPP opposed Jaffer only being charged with careless driving, the Crown took a steadfast position, sources say. Jaffir's sentence was exactly what 99% of individuals caught in similar circumstances will receive. This has NOTHING to do with favouritism. If he had received a harsher sentence it would have been an exception to the rule. In BC Gordon Campbell was caught drunk driving and received a slap on the wrist and a fine and he didn't even resign.
