Could the people just be revolting? Meanwhile in Ottawa, back to the mainstream. Elementary, my dear Watson. Pity.

Congrats to Mr Ford, but he’s only one vote on council. Have enough lefties been removed to let him do his work? I do remember one alderbitch/bastard saying that council could de-elect him, so to speak.

  2. 9 incumbents did not run for re-election, four of them that did were also defeated.

    Etobicoke sent two Fords.

The mandate is his and Layton/Vaughan are going to get schooled on this voter backlash.

  3. TedNo Gravatar says:

Except, CS, Vaughan doubled his vote in his ward.

Clearly a tough night for incumbents in Toronto as a wave of anti-establishment rose up and carried Ford in its wake.

Toronto will suffer. Not because Ford is not genuine – he is the most genuine politician who lives by his word that there is at City Council – not because Ford is promising cuts – he won’t be able to deliver on most of his promises – but mostly because he is an idiot, pure and simple. If you ever watch him in Council, he doesn’t even understand the implications of his own motions.

There is a famous one where at budget meeting where he is pretending to be a penny pincher, he tried to have a motion passed to authorize the purchase of a police helicopter for $1.5M. It was a complete farce: City Council does not purchase helicopters, City Council can’t even tell the cops what to buy or how to spend their money (that is done through the Police Services Board, to which Ford admitted he had never gone; City Council just sets the overall budget), the Police Services Board said they had not requested, the cops were saying they did not need another helicopter, no one was it was needed though Ford claimed hundreds of people had asked him to push for this. It was a debacle. And when he couldn’t handle the questions – which were coming from those who hated him yes, but they were reasonable questions – he starts shouting and ranting about socialist this and socialist that. Truth is, it was his personal very expensive pet project and he showed he doesn’t know the beginning of how council works.

And this guy is now in charge.

You can argue all you want that he was the better choice and I’d be hard pressed to say he would be a bigger disaster than Smitherman, but a disaster he will be.
