Torture by India: Once again WikiLeaks confirms the well-known

From a post November 17:

Corruption? What stinking corruption? And what stinking torture?

…There’s a hell of a lot of willfully blinkered hypocrisy in Canada…

In fact we are so desperate to gain Indian favour–and business–that we even abandon our supposed principles on human rights…

Now at Foreign Policy’s AfPak “Daily Brief”:

U.S. diplomatic cables released by the web site Wikileaks show that the International Committee of the Red Cross secretly briefed U.S. officials in 2005 about Indian security forces’ use of electrocution, beatings, and sexual humiliation against detainees in Indian-administered Kashmir, and the ICRC was frustrated with Indian officials for not halting the “continued ill treatment of detainees” (Guardian, BBC, Tel). As recently as 2007, cables show that U.S. officials were concerned about human rights abuses in the valley…

If I pin your arms to the ground and won’t let you up until you say “Give” I am a torturer? What utter nonsense

You need to spend your time on your business adding value to something. Not wasting your time on other people”s business.

If the Indians want to beat their own people why do I care. The UN should deal with it. Not Canada.

The point is an awful lot of people in Canada who go spare about the possible torture of Afghans are quite happy to suck up to India in the hope of big trade bucks. Same with China, far and away the world’s biggest executioner–see the photo here:

And also to highlight that very little of the current WikiLeaking, despite all the frenzy and furor, is telling us anything seriously new.

    Good for the Indians.
At least the Indians don’t claim to be spreading human rights, democracy and freedom around the world or invading other countries to do so. India’s government does what is in its best interest, even if it includes torturing suspected Muslim terrorists in kashmir. India has no qualms about building alliances with regimes such as Burma or doing trade with Iran as long as it benefits its country. Its about time Canada stopped pursuing its Alice in wonderland foreign policy and conduct foreign policy in a manner that is in our best interests.

To a socialist anything is better than ‘white’ bred first world values. They would jump up and down in joy when the Martians land even if they were here to eat us.
